Timing is important. Not
only is timing important within your show, it is very important before and
after your show. What people don’t see is the down time of performing. If
you are driving to your location look at a map and talk to your client about
how long it will take you to get there. It is a great idea to arrive at
least one hour before to insure that all of your props, sound equipment, and
the room are set up effectively. Depending on what type of show and how
much production is needed, you will still have to do a sound check, make
sure that the room is set up right, and allow time to focus before the
show. Prepare well so that you know how long it takes to set up.
Once you start your
show, it is a good idea to stick to the expected start and finishing time.
Start on time and finish on time, unless your client or audience advises you
otherwise. Always have more routines than you need! You are serving them
and if you decide to inflate your ego and go on longer, not respecting your
client’s wishes, it could be perceived that you are disrespectful or that
you are not polished. Remember you are serving your client NOT yourself!
