How to
Make and Impression with Free Shows
by
Wayne Lee
If people are not knocking
on your door and your phone is not ringing off the hook, then you must reach
out to people. Over the years, I have realized that most of my bookings
come from word of mouth and people that have seen the shows. There is a
wide range of possibilities to reach the greatest number of people who are
willing to pay full price for your services.
To build up the desire for
people to book your show, following is a list of organizations where you can
perform for free:
Business Groups:
·
Networking Clubs
·
Chamber of Commerce
·
Junior Achievement
·
Professional Associations
Service Clubs (non-profit
organizations):
·
Kinsmen / Kinettes
·
Elks
·
Lions
·
Big Brothers
·
Optimist
·
Rotary
Community Groups:
·
Schools
·
Libraries
·
Churches
·
Recreation Centre
·

All of these groups are in
need of entertainment and a presenter. There are a number of benefits for
doing these free shows:
·
You practice and polish your skills and get better
at your craft.
·
Charitable events can provide great free
publicity.
·
The exposure of these shows will lead to paid
performances. If you have a great show and are confident, then get excited
about performing these free shows as they will lead to paid shows.
·
You get experience building relationships with
professional groups. It provides an opportunity to network. Get people’s
business cards and contact information. You are there to put on a great
show and build relationships to sell your show.
·
Always ask (and get) a testimonial from the person
that brought you in to perform. This allows you to build up social proof
that you have a great performance. Most people inquiring about booking you
like to know what other people think of your show.
