Contacting Agencies
by
Wayne Lee
In addition to promoting
yourself, have agencies also promote your services by you doing the
following:
·
Find out what agencies are in your area (use the phone book, the Internet,
etc.) and get their contact info. If you are performing over a wide
territory, then find out about the agencies in the different cities, states,
provinces, and countries.
·
Call or e-mail agencies to inform them about who you are, and ask if you
could send them your promotional material. If they say they are not
interested, then they probably will not get work for you. Send your package
to the people that are willing to accept it.
·
Make sure that your information is agency friendly. Avoid putting your
contact information on your material. Remember these agencies are selling
you so they can make their commissions, as well as build their client base.
The information they receive and send out must generate back to their
company. Hint: Put labels of their contact information on your hard copy
promotional materials. This shows respect to the company and they will be
much more willing to work with you.
Include the following
items in your agent promotional package:
·
Biography and picture (8” x 10”)
·
Description of the show(s) you perform
·
Testimonials about your shows
·
Client list
·
Fee structure
·
Promo video
This promo package can
be sent in a folder or via e-mail (this is a great way to send info without
paying for it). It is still a good idea to send a hard copy package so the
agency has it in their hands.
Give the agency time to
receive and review the material, then place a follow-up call to make sure
they have received it and ask if they have any questions. This also lets
them know that you want to work with them.
Throughout the year it
is a good idea to check in with the agencies. Eventually you will find
there will be a select few who book you more often – so it is important to
be in contact often so they don’t forget about you. |
